Monday night’s episode of “The Bachelor” marked the end of the road for the show’s two Bay Area contestants as Jasmine Goode and Josephine Tutman were both sent packing.
The women departed in dramatically different ways. Tutman, a registered nurse from Santa Cruz, bowed out quietly and rather meekly. In vivid contrast, Goode, a former dancer with the Golden State Warriors, had an ugly, acrimonious run-in with Nick and left St. Thomas Island in a flood of tears.
After earning a scant amount of camera time over the previous weeks, Josphine’s departure was not a major surprise. She was sent home early in the episode during the rose ceremony, along with Jami and Alexis. She didn’t even get the typical teary exit interview. Josephine simply hugged Nick and said, “Best of luck, OK.”
Based on what we saw as viewers, Josephine never really made much of an impression on Nick, or the show. Or maybe that was just because the feuding Corrine and Taylor were hogging the spotlight.
And really, Jasmine hadn’t gotten much camera time either, until this week when she simply lost it in front of America. The night began with her complaining that she had yet to receive a one-on-one date with Nick. “Does he even notice me?” she wondered. “… I feel like punching him in the stomach”
And she did have a point. Jasmine, who also was a cheerleader with the Dallas Cowboys, is stunningly beautiful. And she’s obviously used to getting noticed. We couldn’t understand how, for all these weeks, Nick was ignoring her while allowing himself to get sucked into all the drama between Corrine and Taylor.
But Jasmine didn’t do herself any favors. She let her anger and frustration and insecurity get the best of her while in St. Thomas. During a volleyball match in which several of the women were stressed out, she got physical with Corrine, pushing the little blonde hellcat into the sand.
And she started talking like a thug, at one point telling the camera that she’d like to punch Nick in the face.
When she finally did get some alone time with Nick, it didn’t go well. She again got physical, motioning several times like she wanted to choke him. She didn’t really mean it (at least we THINK she didn’t), but Nick was clearly put off by it and their whole conversation was painfully awkward.
“I didn’t come here just to play games,” she said, dissolving into tears.
Nick, realizing that there was no salvaging this relationship, suggested that it was time for her to go. Later, he explained that things started well with Jasmine, but “the past few weeks have gone flat.”
If there was a bright side for Jasmine, she wasn’t around to see Nick unleash a flood of man tears after sending two more women — Whitney and Danielle — home. It’s starting to look like this is one messed-up dude.
Here’s hoping you didn’t have any of these women in your “Bachelor” fantasy league.
